The Missing System Behind Church Growth - Ryan Wakefield - Church Marketing Conversations, Episode 5

The Missing System Behind Church Growth - Ryan Wakefield - Church Marketing Conversations, Episode 5

What does a Church actually need if it wants to consistently reach new people?

It may not be another campaign.

It may not be another reminder from the pulpit to “invite someone this Sunday.”

And it may not be simply posting more on social media.

The missing piece may be a repeatable system.

In this episode of Church Marketing Conversations, I sit down with Ryan Wakefield, CEO of Church Fuel, to talk about what Churches can do to create a more intentional path from reaching someone for the first time to helping that person actually connect with the Church.

We talk about the entire journey: invitation, first contact, preparing for a guest, the first-time guest experience, follow-up, connection, photography, measurement, and the systems that help Churches do these things consistently instead of starting over every week.

Ryan also shares practical lessons Church Fuel has learned from working with and studying thousands of Churches.

In this conversation, we discuss:

• Why simply telling members to “invite someone” isn't a complete invitation strategy

• What a repeatable Church invite system can look like

• Why your best guest follow-up may begin before the guest ever arrives

• How Churches can prepare to host a family before their first Sunday

• The difference between being a friendly Church and helping people actually make friends

• What Churches should measure if they want to know whether their outreach is working

• Why growing your contact list matters

• The danger of confusing marketing activity with actual connection

• Why photography may be one of the most overlooked tools in Church outreach

• The strategic photos Churches should have available for their website, Google Business Profile, social media, and other channels

• What Church Fuel has observed when comparing growing Churches with plateaued or declining Churches

• How Pastors can think about Church Growth as a repeatable system rather than a collection of disconnected tactics

One of the biggest ideas running through this conversation is simple:

Church Growth shouldn't depend on remembering to push harder this week.

A healthy system helps the Church consistently create opportunities for people to hear about the Church, take a next step, visit, build relationships, and stay connected.

That doesn't replace prayer.

It doesn't replace faithful preaching.

It doesn't replace discipleship, personal relationships, or dependence upon God.

It simply helps us become more intentional stewards of the opportunities and people God has already placed in front of us.
